Rate of Pay: $55,000-$60,000 DOE

Job Announcement

Pinyon, based in Lakewood, Colorado seeks a Field Crew Chief with field experience in Arizona and surrounding states.  The Field Crew Chief will be responsible for assisting project Field Directors with supervising fieldwork crews and calendars, coordinating lodging and per diem, completing site file checks, report writing, and providing general administrative support as assigned under the supervision of the Senior Archaeologist and Archaeological Resources Group Manager. Overnight travel will be required for this position.  A successful candidate will be collaborative, knowledgeable, organized, professional and demonstrate a willingness to learn.  This candidate will primarily be responsible for conducting/coordinating fieldwork and data collection in support of Class I, II, and III cultural resource surveys, construction monitoring, and data recovery.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology
  • Experience with assisting project Field Director(s)
  • Meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology (36 CFR 61)
  • Experience with archaeological field survey and resource identification and documentation in Arizona is required
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal historic preservation laws and policies
  • Knowledge, or willingness to learn, Section 106, Section 4(f) Compliance, ARPA, NAGPRA, Antiquities Act, and relevant state legislation
  • Knowledge of field data collection, including GPS unit(s)
  • Knowledge/experience with cultural resources throughout Colorado and surrounding states is a plus
  • Ability to complete technical memorandums and other state and local inventory forms, as necessary
  • Ability to travel
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of colleagues, clients, agencies, and other project stakeholders, of all levels and diverse backgrounds
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong GPS skills
  • Capable of safely performing physically demanding tasks in adverse conditions including walking up to 10-miles/day over variable terrain while carrying 40 lbs. of gear
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Employment contingent upon passing a background check
