AZTEC is currently seeking resumes from qualified Archaeological Technicians for an excavation up near Payson, AZ.
The role will be to assist with an excavation project approximately 2 hours north of metropolitan Phoenix for AZTEC's Cultural Resource Group. Potential opportunity to transition to full-time once project has been completed.
Minimum Pay is $23/hour.
Primary Duties:
- Perform archaeological research and conduct site file searches at federal, state, tribal, and private repositories
- Assist with phased data recovery
- Apply standardized field methods and complete field forms thoroughly and accurately
- Assist with lab work
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology, or closely related field; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Completion of academic-sponsored field school or a minimum of 6 months of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM)
- Previous experience performing archaeological excavation
- Ability to perform fieldwork in adverse conditions (rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures, arid environments, dense vegetation) and carry up to 25 pounds of equipment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently or as part of a team; strong initiative
- Ability and willingness to travel – project is outside Phoenix metropolitan area.
- Reliable transportation
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier
- Experience collecting field data using ESRI software is preferred
- Experience with the respectful treatment and housing of ancestral remains.
