SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a GIS Specialist (HR Title = Assistant Staff Geospatial Scientist) for one of our Arizona and Nevada offices (e.g., Las Vegas, Reno, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Tucson) or qualified individuals can be work remotely with Arizona or Nevada.  The position reports into the Geospatial Sciences Team Lead, and will support our natural and cultural resources and planning programs across our five-office region.     What you will accomplish

    • Support GIS workload with the team to ensure that productivity goals are met and that projects are delivered on time and on budget
    • Maintain a collaborative work environment between project managers and GIS specialists
    • Help ensure overall quality of work is consistent with SWCA's standards and practices alongside other GIS team members 
    • Act as a technical and analytical lead within the GIS group for providing GIS solutions
    • Use ESRI ArcGIS Desktop/ArcGIS Pro for editing data, analysis and making maps, including the use of geoprocessing tools, symbolizing features, importing/exporting a wide range of data and file types, and producing report quality and field maps in a reasonable amount of time
    • Data management and support for a variety of handheld GPS units primarily using Field Maps and Survey 123
    • Develop Web Maps/Apps for use on ArcGIS Online (AGOL) in conjunction with Field Maps and Survey 123
    • Create complex final map products using ArcGIS Desktop/Pro to show data representations such as basic (roads, streams,buildings, etc.), complex (buffers, overlays, merges, viewsheds, spatial joins and relates, etc.), and analytical (raster math, spatial analyses, models, multi-variate statistics, multi-dimensional data arrays, etc.)
    • Help design, create, maintain, and QA/QC geospatial databases using ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, Microsoft Access, and peripheral software
    • Build tools and/or script programs to help in the automation of deliverables and the integration of spatial data with other programmable applications.
    • Create documentation on processes for future use as well a present GIS related subject matter to groups

    Experience and qualifications for success

    Required

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in GIS (= geospatial science), Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS (or GIS certificate)
    • At least one year (1) of professional experience outside of schooling
    • Strong understanding of topological relationships, troubleshooting complex data sets, and applying creative solutions to problems.
    • Demonstrated ability of data transfer, data analysis, data mining, and data inventory using software applications (e.g., Windows Explorer, Excel, Access, ESRI ArcGIS).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of cartography and computer mapping including design principles and understanding map creation procedures in ArcGIS. 
    • General understanding of basic statistics, and geometric math computations (e.g., summary, distributions, frequency, min/max, range, angles, distance, slope, degrees, area).
    • Demonstrated experience with GPS technology, field data collection techniques, data integration to a GIS, and troubleshooting of equipment and digital files. 
    • Demonstrated ability to apply spatial and 3D analyses, and raster math within ArcGIS while maintaining data integrity.

    Preferred

    • Prior work in natural or cultural resources management, remote sensing, and/or water resources, and prior experience working with federal land agencies such as the USFS, NPS, BLM, BOR, USGS, etc.
    • Ability to produce presentations, and/or written protocol of methods for reports or within metadata to replicate GIS-related analyses or modeling techniques applied on project. 
    • Prior knowledge and experience with Enterprise geodatabases, creating database schemas, domains, ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal/Online web applications, network analysis, and/or application development. 
    • Working knowledge of ESRI AGOL, Field Maps, and Survey 123. 
    • Working knowledge of programming languages such as; python, Arcade, json, JavaScript, html, etc.
    • Strong communication skills with a desire to contribute to a team effort when tasked to completing larger tasks.

    A Museum Exhibitions Coordinator is responsible for developing strategy, management, design, construction, installation, and maintenance of permanent galleries and temporary museum exhibitions; establishing priorities for the unit within the context of the entire museum; implementing planning and evaluation for each exhibition in cooperation with other museum management staff; producing exhibit related deliverables such as scaled floor plans, elevations, models, and other documents using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and other digital software; developing, coordinating and monitoring the unit budget; coordinating procurement of supplies and tools; obtaining building, fire, and other permits as necessary, and meeting all code requirements regarding exhibitions; handling safety and disaster planning implementation; handling facilities issues; and performing the design fabrication/construction, installation, and repair of interpretive and educational exhibits.  This classification may supervise the Museum Exhibits Preparator and/or the Museum Exhibits Technician classifications, as well as temporary agency personnel and volunteers.  This class performs related duties as required.   This class is distinguished from the curator staff by the absence of responsibilities for acquisition or care of collections.  This class is supervised by a Museum Administrator or Museum Curator.  This class is FLSA exempt-professional.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications Required:  Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art, Studio Art, Industrial Design, or closely related field.  Considerable (3 - 5 years) experience in museum or cultural exhibit design, fabrication, preparation, installation, or a related area (architectural modeling, industrial exhibit fabrication, or finish carpentry).  Good (1 – 3 years) use of CAD and other computer software programs such as:   Adobe Creative Suite, word processing, spreadsheet, and production management applications.  

    Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Class D Arizona Driver's License by hire date.  Must meet the qualifications to wear a tight-fitting respirator by passing a medical evaluation and a quantitative fit test in accordance with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.134 by hire or promotion date and must maintain certification.

    Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:  One year of experience in another trade, such as casting, welding, masonry, 3D printing, acrylic fabrication, general construction, painting, or electrical work is highly preferred.  Coursework in drafting, industrial engineering, graphic art, design, or equivalent.  Supervisory training and/or experience is desirable.

    A Museum Collections Specialist performs a variety of specialized assignments involving the care and documentation of a diverse collection of museum specimens.  Duties may include the management of one or more subject areas of the collection.  The Museum Collections Specialist is responsible for handling, preparing, installing, transporting, and storing specimens according to accepted museum principles; recording information concerning specimens and inventory; maintaining files; photographing and digitizing the collections; monitoring expenses, maintaining collection storage areas; performing minor conservation of specimens.  Compliance with state and federal rules and regulations including reports.  This class indexes, catalogs and numbers specimens, writes condition reports, performs data entry, scans photographs, and enters them into the database, edits catalog information to summarize and standardize terminology, records information concerning specimens and inventory, and produces reports from a computerized database.  The Museum Collections Specialist also assists with updating policies and procedures, training and supervising volunteers, working with donors, and packing/unpacking loaned objects.  This class performs related duties as required.

    The Museum Collections Specialist is supervised by a Museum Curator who reviews work through conferences, meetings, and results achieved.  This class is FLSA nonexempt.

    Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a cultural resources consulting firm, has multiple positions available for crew leads for ongoing and upcoming fieldwork projects in Arizona and adjacent states. SRI provides comprehensive CRM services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Washington.     Job Description

    The position of Crew Chief is responsible for assisting Project Directors in implementing survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery plans and for coordinating through the appropriate channels all field and analytic tasks associated with fieldwork, analysis, and report preparation.

    For small-sized projects, the crew chief may also assume many of the tasks typically assigned to a project director, though he or she still works under the supervision of a project director. For larger projects, the crew chief works with a project director and/or principal investigator and the project manager to ensure that all tasks associated with project implementation are accomplished professionally and in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.

    Compensation:

    The hourly rate for this project is between $ 24.00 and $31.00 per hour, depending on experience.

    Daily food allowance, when applicable based on the project, will be offered at a rate up to $59/day (no receipts required), and single-occupancy hotel accommodations will be provided.

    Wages for work on other SRI projects may vary and is based on individual qualifications and experience.

    The Archeologist assists with archaeological field research projects conducted by the Cultural Resources Management Program for the Gila River Indian Community. This position participates in aspects of archaeological monitoring, survey and excavation projects.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Assist in surveying and excavating prehistoric and historic archaeological sites.
    • Assist in training new archaeological crew members.
    • Assist archaeological crew members in filling and completing survey and excavation forms.
    • Check specimen bags from survey and excavation collections to ensure information has been accurately filled out and assign specimen numbers.

    Summary:

    The position completes the cultural resources reviews for all the federal-aid projects. This position also assists with maintenance work orders, disposals, material source pits, and other state funded projects. This position is responsible for ensuring the technical completeness of documentation, is part of the Historic Preservation Team and will be supervised by the Historic Preservation Team Lead.

Work with consultants to ensure delivery of product by project deadlines.

    Coordinate and consult with other state and federal agencies, local governments, and tribes on cultural resources and historic preservation issues, including site eligibility and project effects. Prepare and review Section 106 documents, including Memorandum of Agree ment, Programmatic Agreements, and letters. Develop requests for proposals as necessary and review consultant proposals and budgets. Provide cultural resource input to environmental documents.

    Telephone and email consultation, project facilitation, and answering questions to facilitate the project management process.

    Communicate with Historic Preservation Team Lead/Cultural Resources Program Manager on a weekly basis to ensure adequate review of work projects, inform HPT Lead of potential problems in the completion of the work that may affect project schedules or budget, and discuss with HPT Lead difficult or complex projects. Fill in for Planner III on an as-needed basis during flex days, vacation, sick days to ensure continuity and flow in the project clearance process and serve customers.

    Work on emergency, non-standard or accidental discovery projects to ensure agency compliance with appropriate cultural resource laws. Review projects and update project reports and databases for tracking.

    Participate in team, group, and miscellaneous meetings and training as required by the supervisor. Must be able to drive a state vehicle during the course and scope of work.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

    State, Federal, Tribal, local agency policies, procedures, and regulations to effectively manage and facilitate cultural resources clearances/projects.

    Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

    Principles of historic preservation, archaeological methods, and Arizona history and prehistory

    Verbal and written communication and facilitation to interact daily with ADOT personnel, outside agency personnel, tribes, consultants, and the public.

    Project management to facilitate completion of large projects on tight and often changing schedules.

    Phone and email usage; skills  to address archaeological data recovery situations.

    Google Systems and Basic computer skills, use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positions System (GPS), are desired, but not required.

    Manage multiple tasks, while shepherding large projects through a complex and often changing process

    Preference:

    Additional training in Section 106 of NHPA, Arizona Historic Preservation Act, and other State and Federal cultural resource law.

    Experience collecting class I data (AZSITE, HPT Portal, City of Phoenix database, GLOs, etc.). 

    Field experience in prehistory and historic archaeology.

    Experience in drafting small survey and monitoring reports.

    Requirements:

    This position requires possession of a Bachelor’s degree or above in archaeology, anthropology, history or in a related field.

    This position requires possession of a valid Arizona Class D Driver License. Candidates for this position must complete and sign PART 1 of the State of Arizona Application for Employment at the time of interview, which will allow ADOT to obtain the candidate's motor vehicle record (MVR). The most recent 39-month period shown on the MVR will be reviewed in accordance with A.A.C. R2-10-207.11 (H) and (I). The review must show an acceptable driving record prior to any offer of employment being made by ADOT. Employment is contingent upon an acceptable MVR.

    Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a multidisciplinary cultural resources consulting firm, has several temporary, full-time, hourly positions available for archaeological Field Technicians headquartered from SRI’s Tucson office. Although temporary, we anticipate that work will continue minimally through Fall, 2023 Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school. Candidates must also have a minimum of 1–2 years of field experience (i.e., survey, testing, and data recovery) and be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat or cold). Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks. Prior experience concerning the history and archaeology of southern Arizona is preferred, as is demonstrated past field experience working with Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receivers. Prior Mojave Desert, coastal California, Nevada, and Sonoran Desert experience will be viewed favorably, but are not a requirement.

    The hourly pay for this position is $21 - $25, dependent upon experience.     Job Description:

    Reporting to the Project Director and Crew Chief, archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for conducting reconnaissance survey, the establishment of grids, artifact collection, test unit and feature excavation, and documentation. To this end, archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:

    • Conduct archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery
    • Point-locate observation and surface collection units as well as surface artifacts using a Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receiver
    • Draw features in plan and profile that conform to SRI mapping conventions
    • Clean and straighten the walls of a test unit or trench
    • Complete field forms accurately and concisely
    • Properly label collection bags and samples
    • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.

    Fieldwork is anticipated to last throughout the spring and into the summer.
